Redistricting Update
This week the city's redistricting committee met to choose an initial draft plan from three options created by city staff. All of the options are available for viewing as part of the meeting agenda.
Each option made changes to district boundaries to meet the statutory requirements for this process. Option A, the preferred option chosen by the committee, which includes aldermen Matt Reed, Michael Smith, Bill Siebers, Vered Meltzer and Katie VanZeeland, is the option that most closely follows the current district boundaries.
As for our district here in District 15, we will see minor boundary changes to take small portions of District 8 and District 5 under the proposal. The new boundary lines for our district closely follow those of the Calumet County supervisory districts as well.
The redistricting committee will meet again on October 11th to continue work to finalize the new maps for the city, so we can continue to meet the statutory deadlines. The committee recommendation will eventually come to the full council for approval.
I welcome any comments, concerns or questions about the plan.
